Arsenal's Arsene Wenger warns Tottenham over stadium move

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Tottenham will be under increased pressure to deliver on the pitch if they move to a new stadium.
Spurs plan to redevelop their current White Hart Lane ground to accommodate a new 56,250-capacity venue.
North London rivals Arsenal moved to a new £400m stadium themselves in 2006.
"If you look at English clubs who have built a new stadium and look at where they have finished, then it tells you how difficult it is," said Wenger.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Tottenham will be under increased pressure to deliver on the pitch if they move to a new stadium.

North London rivals Arsenal moved to a new £400m stadium themselves in 2006.
"If you look at English clubs who have built a new stadium and look at where they have finished, then it tells you how difficult it is," said Wenger.
The Gunners have only recently begun to reap the benefits of the switch to the self-funded 60,000-capacity Emirates from Highbury, after years of having to set aside significant funds against a long-term fixed interest rate repayment bond.
During that time, Wenger was required to deliver Champions League football while also balancing the books.

Lampard love story over-Mourinho

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said there was nothing emotional about Frank Lampard's goal against the Blues, and insisted the "love story" finished when the midfielder joined Manchester City.
The 36-year-old former England international, who left Chelsea in the summer, came off the bench to equalise in the 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium.
Frank Lampard is a Man City player," Mourinho told Sky Sports.
"When he decided to go to a direct competitor then love stories are over."
"The Portuguese coach added: "I don't believe in stories of passion and heart, maybe I am too pragmatic in football. He did his job as a professional."

Real Madrid will not rest Ronaldo

Carlo Ancelotti says he has no intention of resting forward Cristiano Ronaldo despite a demanding run of four games in 12 days for Real Madrid.
Ronaldo has featured in seven games already this season, including theUefa Super Cup win over Sevilla and both legs of the Spanish Super Cup.
Real start a busy run of games at home to Elche in La Liga on Tuesday.
"Cristiano doesn't need a rest, we need him because he's at his best," said Real boss Ancelotti.
Ronaldo, 29, has scored six times in his last four outings, including a hat-trick in last Saturday's 8-2 win at Deportivo La Coruna.

Juan Mata 'could not have imagined' defeat

Manchester United's Juan Mata has admitted he could not have imagined the Reds' 5-3 defeat at Leicester.
Manager Louis van Gaal started with big-money signings Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao.
But Premier League newcomers Leicester overturned a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3 as they dominated the last half-hour.
"I keep thinking about how we lost a game that was under control," said Mata, 26. "I could not imagine a day like this."

Ronaldo bid possible, says Van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal would like to sign Cristiano Ronaldo but does not expect Real Madrid to sell.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a return to Old Trafford, having left in 2009 for a then-world record £80m fee.
Asked about re-signing the Portugal international forward, Van Gaal said: "It is possible.
"Players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to a team, but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell him."
Ronaldo, the world footballer of the year, helped Real Madrid become champions of Europe for the 10th time last May.

Mourinho has Costa hamstring concern

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho suggested Diego Costa is not ready to start more than one game a week after using him as a substitute in the draw with Schalke.
Striker Costa, who joined from Atletico Madrid for £32m in July, came on in the 74th minute as Chelsea drew 1-1 in their Champions League Group G opener.
The 25-year-old, who has scored seven goals this season, injured a hamstring playing for Spain on September 4.
Mourinho said: "If he has one week to let the muscle recover he can start."
Brazil-born Costa passed a late fitness test to play against Swansea in the Premier League on Saturday, scoring his first hat-trick in English football in a 4-2 win.

Bale inspires Real win sa Atletico close

Gareth Bale starred as holders Real Madrid thrashed Swiss side Basel to begin the defence of their Champions League title in impressive style.
After a Marek Suchy own goal had put Real ahead, Wales winger Bale smartly lobbed the keeper before finishing.
Bale set up Cristiano Ronaldo to tap in, James Rodriguez hit a fourth and Karim Benzema swept in a late fifth. Derlis Gonzalez scored for Basel.
Elsewhere, last season's finalists Atletico Madrid lost 3-2 at Olympiakos.

Di Maria provides pace and penetration

There was absolutely no doubt that Di Maria was the man who made the difference for United against QPR.
When the Argentina international had the ball, they played at a totally difference pace, and he was so creative with it.
After some poor early crosses he just got better and better, and a couple of dinked passes he played to Robin van Persie were just sublime.
Di Maria was United's only midfield player who really looked to run at the QPR defenders, take them on and commit the opposition.
He linked up well with left-back Marcos Rojo and QPR never really coped with Di Maria, or the tempo United had when he had possession, something that happened a lot, particularly in the first half.

Messi and Neymar to link up for Barca

Lionel Messi and Neymar are set to start together for the first time this season as Barcelona look to maintain a winning La Liga start at home to Athletic Bilbao.
Brazil's Neymar has been struggling with an ankle problem while Messi missed Argentina's win over Germany due to a groin strain.
"Messi is ready, he has trained with the group," said boss Luis Enrique.
"Neymar is a special player. He is in the right condition to play."
Enrique added: "He (Neymar) has already been subjected to incredible pressure in his country and in his club career and I hope that from that base he can become one of the best players in the world."
Barca are the only team in the Spanish top flight to have won their opening two games as they seek to improve on last season's second-placed finish to Atletico Madrid.

Ronaldo "ready" for Madrid derby

Cristiano Ronaldo has been declared "100% ready" for the Madrid derby as coach Carlo Ancelotti assures he will get it right with his revamped Real.
Ronaldo missed Portugal's shock defeat by Albania and Real's loss to Sociedad on Sunday with an unspecified injury.
"My confidence lies on two pillars," said Ancelotti ahead of the visit of champions Atletico.
"I have a group of professionals that are very concentrated and Cristiano scores a goal a game."
He added: "Cristiano is on top form. He is in optimal condition. He doesn't have a chronic injury."

Welbeck did not score enough

Welbeck joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day in a deal Gunners manager Arsene Wenger revealed almost did not happen.
The Manchester-born forward, who scored both goals for England in Monday's 2-0 victory over Switzerland, netted 29 times in 142 United appearances.
Welbeck's international team-mate Rooney, 28, has scored 217 goals for United in 445 matches, while Dutchman van Persie, 31, has hit 48 in 78 games.
United spent close to £150m during a summer transfer spree, but also allowed a large number of players to leave.
Van Gaal said promoting local young players was a cornerstone of his philosophy at Old Trafford.

Rodgers angers over Sturridge injury

Sturridge, 25, suffered a thigh strain while training with England last week and missed Monday's Euro 2016 qualifying win over Switzerland.
"We're disappointed because we feel it was an injury which could have been prevented," said Rodgers.
"I think clubs work differently at times to international teams."
Sturridge, who has played the full 90 minutes in each of Liverpool's three league games this season, was on for 89 minutes of England's friendly against Norway on 3 September.
He suffered his injury in a training session 36 hours after the match at Wembley, which England won 1-0.

Bale double rescues Wales

Gareth Bale's late free-kick saved Wales from embarrassment in Andorra as his two goals made it a winning start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
Andorra had stunned Chris Coleman's side by taking a sixth-minute lead through Ildefons Lima's penalty, Andorra's first competitive goal since 2010.
Bale headed Wales level 16 minutes later, though that did not spare Coleman the jeers of the furious travelling Welsh fans as the score remained 1-1 at half-time.
Wales searched desperately for a winner, and their reprieve eventually came after 81 minutes when Bale curled in a beautiful free-kick to deny Andorra a first competitive point for nine years.

Gareth Bale may be Wales striker against Andorra

An injury to Sam Vokes means Wales have a paucity of attacking options, leaving Charlton's Simon Church as the only recognised striker in the squad.
That could prompt Real Madrid's Bale to switch from wing to a central striking role against the Group B minnows.
"It's no big secret that we could play him down the middle," said Coleman.
Bale has spent the vast majority of his career on the wing, having started his senior career for Southampton as a left-back.
He was used in central midfield on occasions at Tottenham, while at Real Madrid the world's most expensive footballer has primarily featured on the right flank.
"I've seen Gareth play everywhere. He can play anywhere really," said Coleman.

Henderson injury scare for England

England midfielder Jordan Henderson is a doubt for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland after injuring an ankle during training.
Henderson limped out of England's training session at St Jakob-Park in Basel on Sunday.
Manchester City's James Milner could be the man to step in, although Aston Villa's Fabian Delph impressed as a substitute against Norway on Wednesday.
England are also without striker Daniel Sturridge, who has a thigh problem.
Goalkeeper Ben Foster and uncapped midfielder Jack Colback have also been forced to withdraw from manager Roy Hodgson's squad with injuries.

Sturridge out of qualifier with injury

Striker Daniel Sturridge says he is heartbroken after being ruled out of England's opening Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland on Monday.
The 25-year-old injured his thigh during Friday's training session at St George's Park.
The Football Association confirmed that the Liverpool player will miss next week's game in Basel.
"Heartbroken soul right now," he tweeted. "Nothing worse than being injured."
Sturridge added: "Hopefully be back soon fighting fit for LFC."

Tom Cleverly loaned to Villa

However, the 25-year-old could go back to United in the next transfer window in January or even be bought outright by Villa if his term there is successful.
The deal was struck late on transfer deadline day on Tuesday morning and the clubs had been waiting for it to be passed by the Premier League's board.
Cleverley enjoyed successful loan spells at Watford and especially Wigan Athletic before gaining a regular first-team spot under Alex Ferguson in his final season in charge in 2012-13.
However, his fortunes have dipped in the past year, losing his place both in the United starting line-up and as a result the England squad.
Cleverley has played only one of United's four games this season in what has been a poor start to manager Louis van Gaal's reign.
And with several new high-profile arrivals, van Gaal, who is trying to revive a side which recorded its lowest league finish since 1990 last season, is willing to let the midfielder leave Old Trafford.
Cleverley, who has made 79 appearances for United, had also been linked with a move to Everton.

Manchester United go spending crazy

Manchester United's £59.7m signing of Angel Di Maria was one of six club transfer records broken since the end of last season.
What were the other big deals? With the help of financial analysts Deloitte, BBC Sport takes you through the transfer window in numbers.
Di Maria, 26, cost a British record £59.7m from Real Madrid, while Radamel Falcao, 28, joined in a £6m loan deal from Monaco - with the club having the option to sign him for £43.5m next summer.
Louis van Gaal, named as manager this summer, has rebuilt a squad that finished seventh last season under David Moyes, their first campaign since Alex Ferguson retired as manager.
The Dutchman has already spent more than any English club in a transfer window - Manchester United's previous record outlay had been in the summer of 2007 when they parted with £62m.

Everton sign teenager Belgian striker

Everton sign Belgian teenager David Henen from Olympiakos

Everton have signed Belgian striker David Henen on a season-long loan.
The 18-year-old was transferred from Anderlecht to Greek side Olympiakos on Monday.
However, after a recent spell training with the Toffees, boss Roberto Martinez struck a deal to bring the youth international to Goodison Park.
"He's someone whose potential we recognise and at this stage he will go into the Under-21 development squad," said Martinez.
